Why olive oil? / A practical guide
Olive oil and monounsaturated fats
Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat, particularly oleic acid, and can form part of a balanced diet when it replaces fats higher in saturated fat.
Fats are not all the same. Monounsaturated fats are unsaturated fats, and olive oil is one of their familiar food sources.
Context matters: think of olive oil as part of meals rich in vegetables, legumes and other whole foods, rather than as something to add on top of every existing fat.
